(Video – Chuck D giving a shout out to Warren)
I’m a Mos Def stan. I admit it and there is no shame in that. So the day Warren came up with the idea to make a bet with me. The bet was for me to get him a Chuck D shout out and in return, I get a shout out from Mos Def. Yo, I was on a mission! Chuck D was coming to speak at U.O.P in Stockton and as an intern for 209Vibe, I was trying to get a press pass or whatever I can get my hands on to get through. Everyone I spoke to said that Chuck D wasn’t meeting anyone but a certain few. I wasn’t going to give up.
There was a long line to meet Chuck D and there wasn’t much time left. It’s my turn. Fuck it. This is it. Without hesitation, I ask if he can give my friend, Warren, a shout out and mission accomplished! I call Warren up and give him the good news. Although I did hold onto the video until he got me my shout out. Warren did have a month to come up with a master plan but being the punk (Hi Warren) that he is, he punked out! (You did punk out, Warren.) For a good month or so, he kept telling me that he was going to get it and if I did recall it right, he came up with the bet. Warren did end up meeting Mos Def the night of his concert at the Nokia Theater in New York and he got a picture with him. Mos Def even spoke to Warren’s friend for a few minutes so Warren was able to get my shout out but punked out. So much for hype, son!
